I finally managed to open my sketch book today for some more butterfly illustrating action.

 

My week started out a bit rough with my husband flying to Perth on Sunday night, our dodgy car towed to the mechanic Monday morning and just when I thought that was enough to elevate my stress levels... 

the thunderous rumpus dance began!

A thunderstorm flooded our patio on Monday night. While I was frantically saving our shoes, a bright light followed by a loud clap left our house pitch black. Three kids screaming inside and our 'rather sizable' crazy black dog aimlessly bounding around outside.

So... I drop our dripping shoes, skid up the hallway, throw a torch to each kid in their beds. Then back outside I splash barefoot through a swamp after a crazy animal which was kind of like an invisible monster with eyes glowing in the dark. Finally I secured the dog in our garage, dumped all our shoes in the warm oven (which was off) and sat with my kids until they drifted off into their darling little dreamlands.

The rest of the week, I've pretty much been numb from the neck up, so not much has been accomplished in the art department or the house department for that matter. Hopefully I'll have more fluttery winged creatures in my sketch book to show you next week and no adventure stories to tell.

 

Butterfly girl fluttered into my sketch book

My creative juices were flowing last week while holidaying at Noosa. It must have been all that fresh sea air and maybe a little to do with the wine.

I was inspired by watching Miss Am exploring the sand and seashells. The butterflies were just in my imagination, again the wine may have contributed :)

Butterflies is the theme for my next girl's room illustration collection if you hadn't guessed already. I'm hoping to have this complete in time for the birth of my friend's baby girl. I must give myself that lecture again... absolutely noooo procrastinating whatsoever!

I have something else in my sketch book from just prior to heading to the sunny coast. I made this huge greeting card for my cousin's engagement. 

The girl sleeping under the tree is my aunty and the story I've written on the tree is true. One of many my Nanna told me while spending precious days visiting the house of lost pennies. If you click on the image it should pop to a larger view, so hopefully you can read it then.

Individual art prints from the Aviation collection are now available to purchase from my Etsy shop. I will gradually list the new collection in my Made it and Twinkle Star Art online shops throughout this week. There are two name (letter) print designs which can be personalised with the child's name and date of birth (optional). Also all art prints can have any hair colour you wish.

I'm taking a short break -

My Etsy, Made it and Twinkle Star Art online shops will be closed from Saturday the 12th and reopening on Monday the 28th September.

Mr TJ lands in my sketch book

Just when I thought I was really close to launching my vintage aeroplane collection, I decided to do a third aviator illustration. But hey! you can't have too many aeroplanes if you have boys, they just love 'em! 

Well I managed to hit two birds with the one stone today. 

I was able to entertain my four year old, Mr TJ, with playing his favourite game while sketching out my new aviator illustration. All while little Miss Am slept soundly during her daytime nap (which rarely happens these days). 

Oh and I should clarify that no birds were actually injured in the process, well not with stones anyway. I do find the occasional pile of feathers in our yard due to our labrador's retriever instincts. Unfortunately they're not usually dead before she retrieves them. 

Here's what Mr TJ and I were up to today. He makes a good art model don't you think?

And over the last couple of weeks, I managed to complete the other two aviator illustrations. Well I think they're complete. I have this habit of going back and making changes. 

Once I finally complete this vintage aeroplane collection, I will be having a blog giveaway. One of these aviator boys could be yours, so stay tuned.

I'm on the next flight

psst... just wanted to say I'm taking a short holiday to celebrate my husband's and my 9th wedding anniversary. The lovely Mr A organised our 'child free' getaway. I ♥♡♥ him so much! I will be back next week refreshed, inspired and ready for an action packed August...

In my sketch book ~ flight delay

Well it feels like ages ago I started my Vintage Aeroplane illustrations. My flight was temporarily delayed due to some unexpected but very welcomed graphic design work entering my airfield.

Just some shading and final touches to do on both illustrations. Then I'll be ready to design the personalised 'Letter Art' name prints to match.

a pond to jump into

Usual Monday morning...

First stop - I usher Mr WAF into his grade 1 classroom with a lovingly push. Our goodbye kiss lost in the wind as I promptly depart and prepare to catch my flying angel. Each morning my fearless 2 year old jets off to the stairs with arms in front, giggling uncontrollably. She loves playing the game, Let's get Mummy's Heart Jumping!

Second stop - My tonsils need a workout, so I scream 'STOP!' to a boy wearing a shirt which reads, Super Charged! I blush as everyone turns and looks, except, of course my son, Mr TJ. He only knows one gear, full throttle! I chase him halfway across the school towards his pre-prep, my flying angel kicking and wailing while I attempt to footy tuck her under one arm so I can push my pointless pram with the other.

Third stop - Exhausted, I follow my flying angel, Miss Am, now happily skipping down the pathway to her music class for toddlers, which started 5 minutes ago. I'm looking forward to sitting down with the other Mums while watching my little girl be entertained for 30 minutes.

Only 2 minutes in and my red faced Miss Am is sobbing and wailing. Her terrible Mother forgot her song book AGAIN and her new song "Mr Frog" had nowhere to go. OH NO! 

After many cuddles and convincing the girl next to her to share her song book for the lesson, Miss Am was happy again, but only if she could continue the rest of her music lesson in the safety of Mummy's lap.

Once my flying angel became a sleeping one. I decided to spend 'my' rest time illustrating Mr Froggy for her forgotten song book. Miss Am carried her song book around for the rest of the day with her new song, Mr Frog. Magically my Mother guilt melted away :)

Parenting tip: The above craziness happened on a fine day, if it's raining, I suggest stay in the pond.

My studio sketch book ~ Up, up & away!

My studio sketch book was well rested over the school break. Unlike me! 

However, I was lucky enough to score some 'child free' time today, YAY! Off to my sketch book I zippity zoomed...

Here's where I'm up to. Hopefully will get to colour next week.

The little bubble in the bottom right corner shows my previous (almost finished) illustration from this vintage aeroplane collection. Now if you'll excuse me, my 'child free' time is all used up. So back to my three noisy, hypoactive, energy draining kids I go...

Whoops! did I really type that? I meant to say, my three funny, adorable, energetic little stars of loveliness ;)

My studio sketch book...

Almost finished my vintage aviator. Still to add some shade, texture plus a silhouetted Tiger Moth flying in the sky.

My next illustration will be of the same boy flying his 'real life' Tiger Moth. Flying us into the depths of his imagination.
