BrisStyle market experience

 

Here's a glimpse of my display at the BrisStyle Indie Designers Market last Saturday. Being part marketeer novice and part goose, I forgot my framed art which was kind of the whole point of my display. After kicking myself a few times, I got on with the day.

And a fantastic day it was, filled with arty crafty atmosphere. It's lovely to be around so many talented, like minded people. Talking to others about their crazy crafty obsessions makes me feel slightly less abnormal.

I managed to empty my purse before the day started. My Christmas shopping is mostly out of the way after stopping by Selvedge House, Made by Maisie, Denim Days, Rock 'n' Wrap and Little Mary Moo's Place.

A huge thanks to Helen and the BrisStyle girls behind the scenes for making the day a great success. Also thanks to all of you who came along and supported the market and to those who stopped by my stall. I hope there will be many delighted little girls wearing Twinkle Star Art pendants this Christmas.

Denim Days has been very busy making badges and pocket mirrors from my illustrations over the last couple of weeks. I was so thrilled when they arrived in the post. Thanks Tracey for doing a super job, they look fantastic!

Here's something new developing in my studio. I'm making gift cards and envelopes to sell from my Twinkle Star Art stall at the BrisStyle Indie Designer's Market.

I'll be selling them separately and in sets of five, all with matching envelope seals.

 

 

What did I learn today?

1. The tediousness of making envelopes by hand should be seriously considered prior to commencing.

2. Blue play dough is unsurprisingly difficult to remove from tongue and teeth of a two year old.

3. Invite a two year old over to peer pressure your child into doing wee wees on the toilet is successful.

4. After failing to respond to 'Mummy!' three times, my children will resort to using 'A M A N D A!!!'.

Here's my shot for Hey Harriet's Shadow Shot Sunday. A unique way of distributing BrisStyle flyers don't you think?

 

I discovered the creative gene runs strong in my family after stumbling across my 6 year old deeply absorbed in creativity on my art studio floor. With a pile of perfectly formed, colourful BrisStyle Bomber Jets beside him. 

His eye to paper folding focus is comparable to Superman's ability to emit heat energy from his eyes. Although my 6 year must have his tongue glued to the outside right corner of his mouth to keep his focus beam connection (I guess superheroes and creatives have their differences). 

How can I be mad at a boy for using the freedom of his imagination, even at the cost of my time that morning photocopying and trimming all those flyers.

Anyway, if you can't quite read all the information on those BiDM flyers between all the intricate folds, this sums it up...

BrisStyle Indie Designers Market is on Saturday the 5th December at 9am - 4pm. St Augustine's Church Hall, Racecourse Road, Hamilton. So if you're in town, drop in and say 'hi!' or 'Merry Christmas!' would be nice. The BiDM will be the hottest destination for everything handmade this Christmas.

Check out Hey Harriet's place for more awesome shadow shots. Not saying that mine's at all awesome. I was too impatient to wait until late afternoon for the loooong aeroplane shadows.

Thankfully this week's not as crazy as last, just the 'typical day-to-day' crazy stuff...

      a fairy with a nasty knee graze, a boy who didn't quite make the loo on time (twice), an upside down bowl of Vita Brits on the floor, an upside down bowl of tomato pasta on the table (same offender), 3 cardboard superhero masks that just had to be handcrafted right before dinner time and a dog with a mysterious limp... just to name a few.

Helen, from Ruby 2 Go Go, created these sweet little pendants from my illustrations.

I picked them up at BrisStyle's monthly gathering yesterday and was super delighted with how they turned out. 

The catch up was fun and inspirational as usual. Although very brief for me due to an overheated engine, an impaired sense of direction and an unexpected passenger, my eldest son had a workshop to attend.

Something about Little Red Riding Hood

An adorable little package arrived in my letter box this week. The very first thing I've ever really won! YAY!!! and what a beautiful prize it is!

A few weeks ago I entered a blog comp over at Ideyspidey's by the very talented Sarah-Jo Sews. I had completely forgotten about it until I returned back from Perth to find a surprise message from Sarah.

The cute Little Red Riding Hood gift tag is by Nature's Corridor... such a lovely touch.

I am thrilled to bits! As will Miss Am tonight when she transforms into Little Red Riding Hood for big brother Mr TJ's 'fancy dress' kindy disco.

Thanks so much for this gorgeous Little Red Riding Hood cape Sarah-Jo! You are a truly talented and kind person.

Now here's something a bit spooky about Miss Red Riding Hood and it's not just the big bad wolf. I had purchased this cute Little Red Riding Hood coin purse only hours prior to finding out about winning the Red Riding Hood cape... a little twilighty zone don't you think?

This adorable Little Red Riding Hood coin purse was created by fellow BrisStylette, Teneale of Wicked Child Designs.

And just when you thought you've seen enough red. I also purchased these Ruby 2 Go Go beauties by BrisStyle's wonder women, Helen. Thanks for the extra goodies too! The main item is still in its tissue wrapping incase Miss Birthday Girl comes a snooping ;)

Helen generously gave me the gorgeous pair of dangly Ruby Red Studios earrings (pictured above insert) for my birthday last year, thanks again Helen... I love 'em :)

I've gone a bit shopping crazy lately, so hopefully my hubby, Mr A, isn't watching. A delightful package by another BrisStylette, Tracy from Hey Harriet. Tracy's a very talented photographer and artist, plus... super blog host for Shadow Shot Sunday!

I fell in love with these gluttonous gulls when first spotting them at Hey Harriet's. Oh and thanks a bunch Tracy for the extra photos. They're awesome!

And... last of all, some soft blue plushness for the eyes.

Rebecca from Edward and Lilly is the talent behind this adorable little plush car I purchased for my Nephew. I figured it's safe to show as he recently turned one, a little young to read my blog. Hmmm... maybe not, he's learning Italian and English from his Mummy and Daddy, so he's probably already smarter than me.

I'm going to really miss receiving gorgeous parcels filled with delightful handmade goodies. Now back to the usual boring bills and junk mail from Mr Postman until I save up again.

Well I'm kind of refreshed from my Perth anniversary weekend. So much to do this month, aeroplane illustration to complete, twinkle tax return, last 12 months book keeping for twinkle tax return. Hmmm... or I might just post some pics of my Perth trip and procrastinate a little longer.
